Information about the estate

info object

Melihovo Estate .

The estate once belonged to Anton Tchekhov (1892-1899), houses the museum of the writer and is one of the best preserved "smaller estates". Melikhovo is known since 1700, but the land was split between various owners several times. The manor built in 1840's, while most of the outbuildings constucted at the time when Tchekov lived in Melikhovo; some construction was done on his personal blueprints. The estate includes a rare 1775 wooden Christmas church, attached to an ancient cemetery with some XVIIth century gravestones. Lovely park and modest though beautiful countryside surround the estate, making a visit here a pleasure.
