The famous Poltoratsky family manor, known for its developed economy, a library and a stylish metropolitan architecture, built with the assistance of the St. Petersburg master V.P.Stasov. The library building, known as "Gothic house" is realtively well preserved, serving currently a town cultural center. The collections had been relocated to Moscow upon 1917 devastation.

A rare XVIIth century estate with some buildings dating back to 1600s'. First, the domain of Prince Baryatinsky family, the estate was sold to Prince Boris Golitsyn, the teacher of Peter The Great. The manor and some outbuildings are pieces of utmost architectural importance and are relatively well preserved. The collections of art, sculpture and documents were collected here by generations of Golitsyn and successor Gorchakov family. Most of the estate treasuries are now placed in the museums in Moscow and Kaluga.

An impressive riun of what was once a family home of Vorontsov's family. The estate had been founded here by Ivan The Terrible's henchmen Maluta Skuratov in mid-1550's and inherited by marriage by Boris Godunov, Tsar-sucessor. In 1740's the estate falls in hands of Vorontsovs who comission a massive construction. The baroquescque palace, the church and some outbuldings (1774-1778) are beautiful yet ruined. The church (1773) is well preserved. Vorontsov's estate had hosted many famous Russian since Catherine The Great times.

Bogymovo

Smaller estate with a Classicism period manor and some authentic outbuildings. The estate grew out of the industrial settlement. In 1891, famous Russian playwright Anton Tchekhov spend a summer here.

The estate was established in the middle of the 17th century by the landlord G. Belkin. In 1736 the famous Russian architect Vasily Bazhnev was born in this village. Up until 1977, a school was located in the main house, now an abandoned building. The other remaining buildings are set in a verdurous park with three cascading ponds on the banks of the Rozhin River.

Stylish XVIIIth century manor, owned on the brink of the XXth century by Leo Tolstoy's second son Ilya. Currently, the estate is being restored to host a museum. Known also as "Mansurovo", the estate was visited by many famous Russians, including Alexander Pushkin, Leo Tolstoy and others.

Once famous Golitsyn manor, this glamouros creation of Catherine The Great times lies in ruins. The estate carries a major literature importance as its owner, Princess N.Golitsyna served a prototype for Pushkin's "Dame of Spades" heroine. But even the ruins demonstrate the weath and taste of the owners.

XIXth century estate with a rare artificial cave in the park. The history of the domain links it with both Leo Tolstoy's family and Field Marshall Mikhail Kutuzov, the military leader in Russian war against Napoleon. The church of Assumption (1725) represents early Russian interpretation of the baroque style.

Originally a XVth century boyar domain of Schebatchov's family, after a series of marriges it fell into the hands of Rtyschevs-Kashkins, a reigional strongmen.Massive ensamble of buildings, comissioned in 1770s, is partly ruined. The church of Transfuguration, a perfect sample of baroquesque architecture, is well preserved (with some quality frescoes and an ancient iconostasis). The park, once acclaimed by many visitors, is now defunct. Some of the estate's rarities were moved to Kaluga's regional history museum.

Panskoe was established in early XIXth century by gen. D.I.Kudryavtsev on the ground of the ancient agricultural settlement. In 1812, the estate served as a military camp for cossaks under Ataman M.Platov command. The cavalry regiment was waiting there for Napoleon army to leave Moscow. The estate manor is a rare preserved XIXth century wodden house with some outbuildings.

Goncharov family estate, established in 1717 by the ancestors of Alexander Pushkin's wife Natalia. Baroquesque manor is surrounded with some outbuildings of the same style. Rare collections of the Pushkin's time and a lovely park. Nearby you can find another estate by Goncharov's industrial parner Schepochkin that also has some collections and other attractions.

The modern times estate, the property of Morozov's merchant family. M.Morozova, who comissioned the manor to a famous Moscow jugenstil architect L.Kekushev, friended atrists, writers and musicians. The manor, although partly rebuilt in 1930's, provides a rare sample of a countryside Russian jugendstil. Some interiors are preserved, but the family collection had been appropriated by the Moscow museums.

XVIIIth century estate that was cleverly restyled in the beginning of the XXTh century by the last owner S.P.Fedorov, chamber doctor of the imperial family. The manor is brilliant sample of Russian jugendstil, based on the project of L.Kekushev. Estate's park still keeps the charm of the old landscaping with some clever additions by the Modern masters.
